Summary of Guild 3 – Chroniclers: Giving a Voice to the Stories of the Camino

Guild 3 – Chroniclers is one of the collaborative groups taking part in the project "The Way of Saint James: A European Journey of Self-Discovery." Its main goal is to collect and share the personal stories of people walking the Camino de Santiago. While other guilds focus on subjects such as mapping, sustainability, health, landscapes, or cultural heritage, the Chroniclers explore the human side of the pilgrimage. Through interviews, reflections, profiles, and creative writing, students discover the emotions, motivations, and experiences that make every pilgrim's journey unique.

The project encourages teamwork, creativity, digital skills, and international cooperation. Junior students are mainly responsible for designing Canva templates, while senior students prepare the written content. By working together, they create materials that will become part of the Humans of the Camino collection, the project blog, and the final documentary.

Task 1 – Launching Humans of the Camino

The first activity introduces the Humans of the Camino section. Students create the profile of an imaginary pilgrim, explaining their background, personality, reasons for starting the Camino, and expectations. Junior students design an attractive Canva template with images and quotations, while senior students write the profile. This activity begins a collection of stories that shows the diversity of people who decide to walk the Camino.

Task 2 – Preparing a Pilgrim Interview

The second task focuses on creating an interview with a fictional pilgrim. Students design a template including information about the pilgrim's background, motivations, memorable experiences, and advice for future walkers. Senior students write realistic questions and answers that reflect both the challenges and the positive moments of the journey. This activity helps students improve their communication skills and understand different perspectives.

Task 3 – A Story for the Camino Blog

In this activity, students write a blog post based on a pilgrim's experience. They describe an important moment during the Camino, such as completing a difficult stage, making new friends, or arriving in Santiago de Compostela. Junior students prepare the visual layout, while senior students write an engaging narrative that allows readers to experience the emotions of the journey.

Task 4 – Fun Facts of the Camino

This task combines research and creativity. Students investigate interesting facts about the Camino de Santiago and present them as "Did You Know?" cards. They include information about symbols like the scallop shell, the yellow arrows, the pilgrim passport, different Camino routes, annual pilgrim statistics, and traditions in Santiago. The activity helps students learn more about the history and culture of the pilgrimage.

Task 5 – Creating a Pilgrim Profile

Students create another fictional pilgrim profile with more detailed information. They describe the pilgrim's country, occupation, personal story, motivation for walking the Camino, difficulties faced during the route, and the personal changes experienced throughout the journey. In this task, students focus on a single meaningful experience during the pilgrimage. Task 7 – Voices of the Camino

Students create inspirational quotations that represent the thoughts and feelings of pilgrims. Each quote is presented with the pilgrim's name and country, followed by a short explanation of its meaning. These reflections focus on ideas such as hope, friendship, perseverance, gratitude, and personal growth.

Task 8 – Lessons from the Camino

This activity invites students to think about the values people can learn while walking the Camino. They write reflections about qualities such as patience, resilience, kindness, teamwork, and appreciating simple moments. The last activity brings together everything students have learned during the project. They write a final reflection about why the Camino de Santiago is such a meaningful experience for thousands of people from different countries. Using the stories, interviews, blog posts, and reflections created throughout the project, they explain how the Camino encourages friendship, resilience, cultural exchange, and self-discovery.
