The Way of Saint James: A European Journey of Self-discovery

  Physical backpack IOSUB-GEORGESCU ALINA SANDA COLEGIUL ECONOMIC OCTAV ONICESCU-BOTOȘANI-ROMÂNIA In December, students participated in a practical activity focused on the physical backpack and its contents for a journey. They discussed the essential items that should be included in a travel backpack, such as clothing, personal hygiene products, water, food, and safety materials. Students learned how to organize the backpack efficiently, taking into account comfort, weight distribution, and accessibility. Through this activity, they developed planning and organizational skills while understanding the importance of being prepared for different travel situations.

  Preparing the Pilgrim’s Physical Backpack Nicolás Bavaresco Physical Education Teacher IES Neil Armstrong, Valdemoro As part of our eTwinning project The Way of Saint James: A European Journey of Self-Discovery , our students worked on one of the most practical and meaningful aspects of the Camino: the pilgrim’s physical backpack . Walking the Camino is not only a cultural, spiritual or historical experience. It is also a physical challenge. A pilgrim needs to prepare carefully, choose the right equipment, carry only what is necessary and understand how to protect their body during the journey. For this reason, students were invited to think like real pilgrims and answer an essential question: What should a young pilgrim carry for a one-day stage of the Camino de Santiago?   THE MOST CREATIVE PART OF ETWINNING Elena Orejudo González Jefa departamento de dibujo IES Neil Armstrong, Valdemoro The junior students in the 1st EPVA class with teacher Elena, have truly embraced their most creative side. They have captured photographs that depict help and solidarity, as well as creative images of footprints. Additionally, they have designed  indicative arrows adorned with motivational phrases for all those who embark on the Camino de Santiago The students have also creatively decorated the shell of the Camino de Santiago, filling it with intricate patterns and vibrant colors. They narrated a comic strip, set within a medieval castle, telling a story that unfolded one day on the Camino de Santiago. And finally, after studyng medieval art styles in their art history lessons, they created a a stained glass window, technically drew a star polygon from an octagon and coloring with markers  in a myriad of hues.

  International Collaboration through eTwinning – Discovering the Way of Saint James As part of our eTwinning project focused on the Way of Saint James (El Camino de Santiago) , students and teachers from several European partner schools worked together to explore the historical, cultural, spiritual, and environmental importance of this famous pilgrimage route.   The Way of Saint James: A European Journey of Self-discovery The project “"El Camino de Santiago (The Way of Saint James): A European Journey of Self-discovery" is an international cross-curricular initiative by which students belonging to the compulsory secondary and pre-university stages are aimed at completing a virtual journey along el Camino de Santiago, departing from Germany and Italy (two possible routes) and travelling through France up to Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Thus, students are led to explore the cultural, historical and spiritual dimensions of this journey discovering the European cultural and historical links we all share. Moreover, we will focus on the development of key life competences, fostering also team-building with European partners, as well as raising awareness regarding the European Union values, coupled with the sustainability of such initiatives.
