Summary of the eTwinning project “On the Roads of Saint James of Compostela”
The eTwinning project “On the Roads of Saint James of Compostela” brought together schools from France, Spain, Italy, Romania and Turkey, as well as German partners during videoconferences, around a common theme: discovering Europe’s cultural heritage through the routes of Saint James of Compostela. This project was carried out in partnership with the Canopé network, which supported this European cooperation initiative.
Throughout the project, students discovered the history, traditions, landscapes, monuments and cultural specificities of the different partner countries. The exchanges, made possible through digital tools and regular videoconferences, fostered cooperation, the sharing of experiences and openness to other cultures.
The students developed many skills: digital literacy, communication in foreign languages, collaborative work, autonomy and creativity. They also strengthened their sense of belonging to a European citizenship based on respect, solidarity and intercultural dialogue.
The project led to the creation of several concrete outputs:
a teenage guide, offering practical advice, testimonials, resources and a multilingual version intended for young pilgrims;
a backpack for the journey, symbolising travel and combining sustainable equipment with reflection on human and spiritual values;
an interactive digital map, presenting the different stages of the route, enriched with resources and multimedia activities;
a project logo and a collaborative blog, making it possible to showcase students’ work and retrace the entire project;
a podcast and a documentary, produced by the students to share their discoveries and learning about the different places explored during the virtual journey; a final dossier bringing together all the productions created.
Beyond these concrete achievements, the project enabled students to undertake a genuine personal journey, encouraging self-discovery, reflection on human values, spirituality, sharing and the meaning of travel.
For our school, this experience represented a major first step in European cooperation. It strengthened teamwork among teachers and partners, boosted student motivation and opened up new perspectives. This first eTwinning project thus marks the starting point of a lasting collaboration and laid the foundations for preparing a future Erasmus mobility.
This human, cultural and educational adventure will remain a particularly enriching experience for both the students and the teaching teams.
